Coronavirus and Work from home productively

More and more people are working from home as the coronavirus epidemic rises sharply in 2020. We would like to provide you some minimal information to help you and your business get through this epidemic in the crisis time.

    I. Coronavirus and why it forms the “work-from-home” trend

In Dec 2019, The Chinese Government announced that there is a new virus, which is spreading in their community. In the following months, it went to other countries with a double infection every single day. Its full name is Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome - Related Coronavirus 2, people may call it in short by Coronavirus or COVID 19, SAR-COVID 2 or Wuhan Virus because its original from Wuhan, China.

There’s currently no vaccine or certain treatment to prevent coronavirus disease (COVID-19). It’s a global pandemic.

You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:

    Do

    • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds or more, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub.
    • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze.
    • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people.
    • Stay home as much as you can, and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell.
    • If you have to go out, please wear a mask.

    Don’t

    • Don't touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean.

A lot of national governments decided to lock down the country and apply further steps in controlling the pandemic such as quarantines or transportation shutdowns. Business owners encourage their workers to operate remotely to protect their wellbeing – and considering the virus 'transmission, this is certainly important.

A lot of people lost their jobs while staying at home. However, thanks to information technology (the Internet), some still survive through the pandemic by working from home.

While transferring from working at work to working from home, many of the employees’ main problems include dealing with depression, handling their time and connecting with team members. Furthermore, working parents will confuse with business and family priorities as schools and universities close down in most countries.

Although, all of this can be difficult, and having a workable plan will help you make it through.

II. How to work from home efficiency and effectively

Working from home may sound very simple and comfortable at first, but it has its own pros and cons.

    + Pros:

You have the flexibility to take care of appointments and errands.

There are fewer interruptions from meetings and chitchat.

There is no commute time or expense.

    - Cons:

You have to make the effort to get a change of scenery.

There is no physical separation between work and leisure time.

It is easy to misread cues via electronic communications.

Work from home during this Social Isolation Period can be very challenging because of:

    Troublesome kids (for parents)

    Loose track of time

    Forget how to socialize

However, there are many ways to conquer these challenges.

    Separate work and personal life

Set boundaries with your work time and your family time.

Make sure your children and your family understand that you still have to work, even though you’re staying at home right now.

You and your partner may take turn to care for the children, or the elders in the family take care of children, while parents are working at home.

Dedicate works hours and set alarms

No snooze button in the morning, you can wake up and do all the personal tasks and when it’s time to work, there is only dedication for work with no personal issues.

In reality, stopping work is easier than beginning it, you can set the alarm for breaks, drinks or meals and not forget to say goodbye to your colleagues.

Tidy your workspace and don’t work in bed or couch

When you don’t separate your workplace and your rest place, it affects badly on your sleeping & working habits.

You might sleep in the working time and work in the sleeping time, which may result in a bad health and unproductive working style.

When you are cooking, drinking, going out, sleeping and working all in the same place, it can be very hard to concentrate.

Without any doubt, a dedicated workspace will carry your efficiency to the next level. If you work at home, a good working environment is really necessary.

It will not only keep your attention on the target, but you'll get so much more done as you are more concentrated, disciplined, inspired, and less distracted.

When you don't have a room you can use as an office, you'll find a tidy, peaceful spot you can call your own. Put your phone, your schedule, your materials there ... this is your desk-friend, and this is where you are now working.

Plan your week, make the to-do-list and goal settings.

Don't work without a goal. Plan your weekly schedule every Friday or Monday or hourly.

Create routine To-Do lists, clearly detailing what and how much you plan to do. If you need to, mark them in order of priority so you know what to do first, second, third, etc.

Build a To-Do list and plan a block of time (1-hour, 2-hour, 1/2 of your day at work, etc.) that you can concentrate on. Be rational with your goals, keeping in mind how long you usually intend to do it. If you're going to work on Client A between 9 AM and 11 AM, do so and then move on to whatever will continue at 11 a.m. because the time is up.

This technique is better done if you approach it like an interview or a meeting session. For example, at 12 PM you have a dental appointment that will take an hour,  you arrive on schedule for the appointment. Okay, why shouldn't we handle the job the same way?

    Turn off distractions

Social networking can be such a time black hole. During the day, we swipe through our Pinterest, Facebook and Twitter feed carelessly. We sometimes aim to watch a short video, but end up seeing "linked" videos worth an hour that the algorithm delivers to us so cleverly.

We read a post from a friend on their news feed and get sucked into the 100 comment argument it caused, heading for the popcorn instead of our computer mouse.

The biggest distraction is social media.

Remain tuned in while you're "lockdown" to your job. Do not launch applications, and do not leave your Facebook in a new window. When the job is done everything will always be there.

When you can't get rid of yourself entirely from 9 to 5, give yourself a block of social media time to close down the things and get back to work after you have your fix.

Healthy habits give you good energy to work better

    Exercise & Meditate

Everyday exercise and meditate at least 5 mins for your body to be happy and healthy.

Happiness boosts the immune system in case you have to fight the virus and help you finish your work in time.

    Shower & Dress-up

Dress for the day as though you're going to a "real workplace," even though you're just going downstairs to your home office. The last thing you want to do while working from home is to miss your morning shower and linger in your sleepwear until lunchtime.

You remember the saying, "You're only feeling as good as you look" Okay, you're almost as productive as you look too.

Think about it: wearing your pajamas and feeling lazy when you're unclean ... Are you your most productive self? Or do you still catch yourself yawning because you just can't shake off the sleepy mode?

When you wake up to get dressed like you would if you had places to go, to friends to meet, you'll be even more energetic. I concentrate more on my job and less on my relaxation while I'm wearing work clothing or even day clothing.

    Sit properly & Screen tips

It's crazy how many people don't know which is the best sitting posture. Ideally, you should sit at your chair height at a desk or table and your knees are flat on the ground and your lower back is backed up. Your elbows will be at an angle of 90 ° -120 °, and near to your body. When you're not sitting properly, not only do you realize that you can't perform very productively today but in the future, you can even have issues in the leg and spine.

Your computer screen should be in or just below eye level. Seek to aim it away at an arm's length to prevent straining your eyes. The gap in output between using a 24 "widescreen versus an 18" screen can be up to 76 working days, so if you truly respect your time, then the investment is worth it.

    Rest well and take breaks

Productivity helps you become the best you can be. How much sleep you have gotten, how many rests you take – when and for how long you do play a part, and also how much you search your social media channels! A 40-minute nap will increase alertness by 34%, and daily 2-minute breaks will increase productivity by 11.15% on average.

    Decoration

Although we don't suggest you can re-decorate the whole home, it's worth remembering the paint on the wall may have a significant impact on productivity. For better productivity, use blues and greens, and yellows for imagination.

Evidence indicates that workplace noise can be counterproductive, research also shows that background music can increase efficiency by 6.3 percent. It is also critical that the field of work is very well lit, and even the temperature will make a difference – the highest being between 70 °-73 ° F.
